Jai Ho!

Chennai's own A. R. Rahman has just picked up back-to-back Oscars for Best Original Score and Best Song for his work on "Slumdog Millionaire". Jai Ho*, Rahman bhai!

Congratulations also to Resul Pookkutty, the first Indian film technician to be ever be nominated for an Oscar, for his win in the Sound Mixing category for "Slumdog...".

* "Jai Ho", the song for which Rahman won his second award, translates to "Be victorious".
Yes, there is a reason behind the change in the choice of music on the blog.

I love that song on your blog, I left it there and we were getting funky, Gary & I. Yay for all the Oscar winners!

Did you see Slumdog Millionaire? It's rated R, so we havent seen it, but my parents did go and see it, and they said that it was really good. We are debating if it is one that we should see.

I totally thought that the song from Wall-E would win, mainly because the Academy tends to be very anglo-centric, but Jai Ho is a pretty cool song and I'm glad it won.

Also, Kevin and Jamie. (I don't know you, but I'm going to throw in my 2 cents.) Yes, Slumdog is R, but I would say it is just barely R. There is no sex and no bad language that I can remember. There are some brutal scenes near the beginning when Jamal is getting tortured, but other than that I think the movie is mainly R because it deals with some issues that are adult themed (not pornographic, mind you, but rather emotionally intense).

Despite some emotionally intense scenes and themes, the movie overall is very uplifting.

I wish Clean Flicks still edited films. I'd watch Slumdog that way.

...I'll have to read this post again later since my speakers at work broke recently. :o(
